Who is GISP
The Government Internet Service Provider (GISP) was formed in 1998 and subsequently became operational in 1998. It is mandated to be the sole provider of Internet services to all Government Ministries, Departments and Parastatals. It also provides Internet services to The Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature.

To promote the Government's drive towards e-government services through the provision of efficient, effective, competitive and affordable Internet Services.

The GISP was mandated by the Government of Zimbabwe through the Chief Secretary of the PResident and Cabinate’s general communique Letter No. 1 of 2011, stipulating that the GISP is to offer Internet Services and provision of e-mail services to all MDAs.

Overview
The Government of Zimbabwe realised that Internet was not only an imperative technology, but also had become the main medium of communication among people, and already impacted on the ways people communicate with each other. Conversation and/or communication was thus no longer exclusively a face to face act or a simple chat over the phone. Hence the birth of GISP in 1998.
